Will Brexit Affect the UK Nationals in Your Workforce?

To tackle the effects of Brexit, the Finnish Government has proposed a special act that would extend UK citizens’ right of residence after 29 March 2019. The bill has not passed yet, but the Government aims to pass it as soon as possible.

Under the upcoming act, those UK citizens who are currently living in Finland and who have registered their residence with the Finnish Immigration Service no later than on 29 March 2019 can continue to live and work in Finland until the end of 2020 regardless of Brexit.

We advise all of our clients to ensure that their UK employees have already registered their residence in Finland or encourage them to do so as soon as possible and by 29 March 2019 at the latest. Registering their residence may no longer be possible after the aforementioned deadline, and an unregistered employee may lose their right to work in Finland until they have acquired a residence permit.
