Knowledge Management
Legal Knowledge Management
In today’s business environment, the collective knowledge of an organisation’s personnel represents an essential part of the organisation’s capital. Law firms are under increasing pressure to be more efficient and to channel the collective knowledge into all-round client benefit.
The B&K principles of legal knowledge management are expressed in these four theses:
- B&K’s partners and information specialists have a clearly-articulated knowledge management strategy and objectives
- B&K’s personnel are committed to these objectives
- B&K’s personnel believe in technology as an essential part of achieving these objectives
- B&K’s lawyers share information within the organisation and with clients
At B&K, many important functions are categorised under legal knowledge management, including document management, client relationship management, human resources management, legal intranet and extranet services, internal training and internal information services. We constantly evaluate new tools and working methods.
Information Services
The B&K Information Services team is responsible for collecting, categorising, analysing and managing the information available at B&K. We have a well-equipped and up-to-date law library that contains approximately 10,000 items. All material is indexed at our internal database, which is available on every lawyer’s desktop via intranet. B&K Information Services also provides access to dozens of databases, including major legal databases like Lexis-Nexis and Westlaw.
The B&K Information Services team is also responsible for internal training regarding new software and databases as well as legal information sources in general. The team assists our lawyers to acquire and strengthen their professional capabilities. They also update our legal intranet service by regularly adding handpicked pieces of legal information like standard documents, checklists, legal news and useful links.
Our information specialists also assist clients directly in their information requests. They receive more than 1,000 challenging questions or inquiries annually either from B&K lawyers or our clients.
