Borenius’ Partner Juha Koponen Selected Fellow of the American Bar Foundation

Borenius is pleased to announce that Partner Juha Koponen has been selected as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. The Fellows of the American Bar Foundation is an honorary organization of attorneys, judges, law faculty, and legal scholars whose public and private careers have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the welfare of their communities and to the highest principles of the legal profession. Membership in The Fellows is limited to one percent of lawyers licensed to practice in each jurisdiction in the United States and to no more than 300 Fellows internationally located outside the United States. Members are nominated by their peers and elected by the Board of the American Bar Foundation. Mr. Koponen is only the second lawyer in Finland to be nominated as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.

Juha heads the Capital Markets practice at Borenius with a focus on large international capital markets offerings. He also works on M&A and private equity matters assisting mainly U.S. based clients. He also writes and lectures extensively on Finnish capital markets and M&A matters in international publications and seminars. Chambers Global constantly ranks Juha as one of the few US Capital Markets and US Finance Experts based in Finland under the “Foreign US Expert” category. All major legal directories, such as the IFLR1000, Legal 500, Chambers Europe, and the Best Lawyers rank him as a “Leading Lawyer” in capital markets in Finland.

Juha served for many years as the Finnish country representative for the American Bar Association’s Section of International Law. He has also served as Co-Chair of the Finland Chapter of the International Section of the New York State Bar Association. In addition to his Finnish law and business administration degrees Juha earned an LL.M degree from Columbia Law School on a Fulbright scholarship. While at Columbia Law School, he was elected as a Representative to the Columbia Law School Student Senate and also served as a Member on the Dean’s Advisory Committee. He has been admitted to practice law in the state of New York for over 13 years and has been a member of the Finnish Bar Association for over a decade.
