An Evening with the Consul General in New York – “Financing and IP Considerations for Foreign Tech Companies in the U.S.”

On October 5, Borenius and Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton LLP, together with Amcham Finland and the Consul General of Finland in New York, arranged a reception for Finnish technology companies operating or looking to operate in the United States. The Consul General of Finland Manu Virtamo and his wife Liisa Virtamo kindly hosted this reception at their New York residence.

After introductory remarks from the Consul General and Amcham Finland, attorneys from Borenius and Cleary discussed intellectual property protection and capital raising considerations for non-U.S. tech businesses looking to expand in the U.S. market. Borenius’ Jarno Vanto moderated a discussion during which Cleary’s David Herrington and Leonard Jacoby pointed out various crucial IP matters for non-U.S. technology companies to keep in mind when considering a US expansion. Thereafter, Borenius’ Juha Koponen led Cleary’s Craig Brod and Adam Fleisher into a discussion about the latest plays in the U.S. and Finnish IPO markets. The IPO panel saw quite a bit of similarities in the process of preparing a company for an IPO, regardless of whether the listing venue would be in Finland or the U.S.

After the presentations guests were able to further discuss any questions with the panelists over hors d’oeuvres and cocktails.
