About Tiia-Maria

Tiia-Maria advises domestic and international clients on complex commercial disputes and strategic risk management matters. She represents clients before general courts and in arbitration proceedings, and provides advice throughout the entire dispute lifecycle, from dispute avoidance and pre-dispute strategy to the resolution of complex commercial disputes.

Her experience includes domestic and international arbitration under the rules of leading arbitration institutions, including the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC), and the Finland Arbitration Institute (FAI). In addition to acting as counsel, Tiia-Maria has served as secretary to arbitral tribunals and as Legal Counsel at the FAI, giving her a comprehensive understanding of arbitral proceedings from the perspectives of counsel, tribunal, and arbitral institution.

Tiia-Maria has extensive experience in commercial disputes across a broad range of industries. Her experience spans construction, maritime, aviation, software and technology disputes, as well as redemption and compulsory acquisition proceedings relating to minority shares and insolvency-related disputes, including avoidance actions. She also advises clients on dispute avoidance, pre-dispute risk management, and mediation.

Prior to joining Borenius in 2026, Tiia-Maria served as Legal Counsel at the FAI, where she worked extensively with arbitration proceedings spanning a broad range of industries and subject matters, developing in-depth expertise in arbitral procedure and the application of the FAI Arbitration Rules. Prior to her role at the FAI, she gained experience in private practice at boutique law firms specialising in dispute resolution.

Tiia-Maria is actively involved in the arbitration community and served on the board of the Young Arbitration Club Finland (YACF) for a full three-year term. She holds an LL.M. from Queen Mary University of London, where she specialised in comparative and international dispute resolution.
