We are proud to continue as one of the main partners of the Helsinki Pride Community in 2021 as it celebrates its 30th anniversary this year! This year is also dedicated to issues that have historically affected the Finnish LGBTI community. It has been 50 years since homosexual acts were removed from the Finnish Criminal Code and 40 years since homosexuality was decategorised as a mental illness in Finland.
The Helsinki Pride Community’s mission has always been to eliminate the inequality faced by sexual and gender minorities (LGBTI persons) in all aspects of culture, language and society. We contribute to the Helsinki Pride Community’s cause by providing legal advisory services on a pro bono basis around the year. This is one way for us to contribute to the fight for equality – a goal that is at the heart of our core values.
Borenius will also be actively supporting the Helsinki Pride Week event that will be held from 28 June to 4 July. Helsinki Pride is the largest human rights and cultural event of the year in Finland. In 2021, the event will be organised as a hybrid of online and in-person workshops, gatherings and lectures. Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin is the official patron of the event.
