Sampo advises our clients on matters related to restructuring and insolvency as well as tax and company law issues. He focuses on advising companies, creditors, lenders, investors, and other stakeholders on various insolvency proceedings, with a particular emphasis on restructuring matters, distressed situations, and workouts.

Sampo brings broad experience in restructuring proceedings, cross-border insolvency procedures, and advising distressed companies outside formal insolvency proceedings. He has guided domestic companies and multinational groups across industries through complex business restructurings, restructuring proceedings, and intra-group financing arrangements.

His areas of expertise extend to business model and operating model development, post-merger integration, valuation, ownership structures, and group restructurings. With industry-specific experience spanning diverse sectors – including software and gaming, professional services, construction, chemicals, and mechanical engineering – Sampo possesses understanding of different business models and the key value drivers that enable him to deliver tailored support to clients facing various types of restructuring challenges.

Sampo joined Borenius in 2017 and has since worked in both our Restructuring & Insolvency and Tax practices. Prior to joining Borenius, he worked as a lawyer at an independent Finnish tax consultancy firm and in the restructuring and insolvency practice of another prominent Finnish law firm. From 2010 to 2013, Sampo gained experience at a management consulting company.

In addition to his law degree from the University of Turku, Sampo holds a Master’s Degree in Economics and Business Administration from the Turku School of Economics. He is currently writing his Doctor of Laws dissertation at the University of Turku.
