Borenius’ Summer Greetings
Dear Clients and Friends
The first half of the year has brought solid growth for our firm – well ahead of last year – reflecting the strength of our full-service offering. Whilst the transaction market had a more measured start to the year, our disputes and projects practices have seen exceptional levels of activity throughout.
As we head into summer, the transaction market has picked up. We look forward to sharing further news in the months ahead and remain confident that M&A and capital markets, along with continued activity in technology and defence, will strengthen further towards the autumn. At the same time, in Finland, renewable energy and the growing data centre market remain key focus areas.
We are also investing in our future by actively integrating artificial intelligence into our ways of working – read more in this newsletter. On the leadership front, we have appointed Niina Nuottimäki as our new Chair of the Board as of 1 May 2026.

Borenius Sweeps IFLR Europe Awards 2026, Winning All Three Nominated Categories
Borenius won all three of our nominated categories at the IFLR Europe Awards, held in London on 11 June. We were named National Firm of the Year – Finland, received the Deal of the Year – The Impact Deal Award for the Intrum Restructuring, and Juha Koponen was recognised as Lawyer of the Year – Finland. This achievement reflects the talent and dedication of our entire team.
Niina Nuottimäki and Malviina Linninen Win at the Women in Business Law EMEA Awards 2026
Two of our lawyers have earned recognition at the Women in Business Law Awards, with Niina Nuottimäki winning Lawyer of the Year – Banking & Finance – National and Malviina Linninen receiving Rising Star of the Year – Arbitration. The Women in Business Law Awards recognise leading women in business law and firms committed to diversity and inclusion across the region.

Borenius Continues to Build AI Capabilities
The pace of development in legal AI is accelerating, and we are committed to staying at the forefront. We were one of the first law firms to roll out a legal AI platform firm-wide back in 2024, and have continued to build on that foundation since, with our adoption rate of AI tools exceeding the current market standard.
This summer, we took a further step by bringing on two dedicated developers to explore and build AI capabilities in a safe and controlled environment. Their work focuses on developing firm-specific workflows and tools tailored to the needs of our practice. We have also worked closely with our AI suppliers to develop features that address the specific demands of legal work.
At the core of all of this is a straightforward ambition: to deliver better value to our clients. AI allows us to work more efficiently, respond faster, and bring a higher level of thoroughness to every matter.
Partner Casper Herler Plays a Key Role in Establishing the Finland Investment Institute
Established at the University of Vaasa, the Finland Investment Institute is a new research and collaboration platform that aims to strengthen Finland's attractiveness as an investment destination by producing research-based knowledge on the factors shaping the investment environment.
Our Partner Casper Herler was instrumental in the institute's development and has emphasised the need for an independent actor capable of identifying new perspectives and fostering dialogue on the themes critical to Finland's investment competitiveness.
The institute has been developed in close collaboration with Borenius, Sitra and other leading Finnish stakeholders.
