Borenius advises Metso as its technology centre project in Tampere reaches the next phase

We continue to advise Metso Corporation as their Lokomotion technology centre project in Lahdesjärvi, Tampere, Finland, progresses to its second phase.

Metso has made an investment decision to proceed with the second phase of the Lokomotion technology centre, which includes the construction of a new crusher factory. The investment for the second phase is approximately EUR 60 million, to be distributed over three years. Together with the first phase investment of approximately EUR 150 million, the total investment in the technology centre exceeds EUR 200 million.

Borenius’ Projects & Construction team has had the pleasure of supporting Metso throughout the contracting and implementation stages of the first phase of the project, which has progressed in accordance with the planned schedule since June 2024. We also helped draft and negotiate the project management contract concerning the second phase.

Construction of the second phase will proceed in parallel with the first phase works, beginning with groundwork in June 2026 and aiming for crusher production at the new facility to start in autumn 2028. The technology centre is estimated to be fully completed in the early 2030s. Once completed, the Lokomotion technology centre will serve as a modern and resource-efficient production and technology hub. The project represents the largest industrial investment in Tampere in this century.
